Honest Abe

Not too happy with this drawing. But I can’t be too hard on myself I did it while I was unable to sleep and watching Breaking Bad. I was testing out a couple of new brushes and techniques and am happy that I did. I have no idea why I decided to doodle Abe though.

Hitchcock

Yeah, I know its been awhile. But I haven’t drawn much with a ballpoint pen since I finished 365 days of drawing with it. I really like drawing with Micron and Faber-Castell pens. But every now and then I suppose I’ll pop back to using a ballpoint. Here is something I sketched up in ballpoint and then finished in Photoshop. I have been watching a ton of horror movies and such recently and Hitchcok stuff is definatly in the rotation. I still plan to write a long “what I learned” piece about my 365 day project, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy this Hitchcock drawing. Also, please please please check out my other illustration page Thecrayonwar.com and you can also check out my DeviantArt page here.

Poe (358)

Today I drew two drawings… oh well, I couldn’t help myself!
I read an article today about Poe and a play in Philly about Poe’s final days (Ok, I skimmed it). But it still made me want to draw Poe, and so… I did.

Then I threw the drawing into Photoshop and pooped this out:

I don’t think I’ve ever spent less time in Photoshop on something in my life. This took maybe five minutes tops. Nonetheless I still like it quite a bit!

An Angry Man (342)

I don’t know much about sports, it was never my thing when I was growing up. I don’t follow much of what goes on… but I know that the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles Andy Reid has gone through a lot recently. I caught a bit of a story about him blowing up on the field the other day on the news. It is pretty understandable though after what he just went through. Tonight I decided to draw him.

Since it was 2am when I finished drawing this and I wasn’t tired after getting a second wind I decided to do more with the drawing. I had been meaning to mess around more with halftones and used them in the shadow areas in this illustration. I turned this out super quick, but I like the way it looks. Hope you do too!

Time for bed!

Jewel thief (320)

This guy started out as just a head, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with him at first, but after seeing the grin I gave him I knew right away what I wanted to do with him. I threw a striped shirt on him, gave him a mask and turned him into a jewel thief!

This illustration reminds me of another illustration that I did for Illustration Friday back in November 2011. The topic was Stripes. I had just finished watching the film Bronson starring Tom Hardy (the guy who plays Bane in The Dark Knight Rises). I became fascinated with Bronson, who was a real person. If you don’t know about Bronson I suggest you read about him here. The guy was a monster, he would take on multiple prison guards at once and usually win (at least for awhile, eventually they would always outnumber him). I doubt he ever wore a stripped prison outfit because it seems like they didn’t do anything like that over in Britain, but it fit the weeks topic at the time and I thought it would look good. Anyway, here is the illustration, Bronson:
